Narmada River

 

  • Rises at the Amarkantaka Hills in MP
  • Flow towards the west in rift valley formed due to faulting
  • Famous Dhuadhar fall is located in Narmada River
  • Length: 1,315 Km
  • It cuts through the MP, Maharashtra and Gujarat
  • Tributaries of Narmada are short and most of them join the Narmada stream at right angle
  • Important Tributaries:  Left: Busher, Banjar, Dudhi river, Tawa River, Kundali River. Right: Hiran River, Kolar River, Man River, Uri River, Hatni River, Goi River.
  • Dams on Narmada: Sardar Sarovar, Maheshwar, Maan, Indira Sagar,Goi, Jabat.

Tapi River

  • Rises at the Satpura Range- Betul District of MP
  • Length:  724 Km  (Shorter than the Narmada)
  • Flow in rift valley parallel to the Narmada
  • Cuts through the MP, Maharashtra, Gujarat
  • Tributaries: Midhola River, Girna River, Panzara River, Arunavati River, Gomai River,Mas  River, Purna River,
  • Mouth: Gulf of Khambhat
  • It Makes estuary
